AR Magazine Couplers

One popular way of increasing the firepower of a rifle is to have a replacement magazine on the gun ready to swap for the empty in an instant. This can be achieved in a number of ways. Three options are the Boonie Packer Redi-mag the Buffer Technologies MagCinch and the Lancer Systems Magazine Cinch.

The Boonie Packer Redi-Mag is availablemade in standard and quick detachable versions. The Redi-Mag gives you an additional magazine well into which a magazine can be inserted. This shields the top of the magazine from the rain and dirt and prevents rounds from being displaced under recoil. There is a separate mag release for the second mag enabling easy tactical magazine changes. The bolt relase is also extended in an ultra rugged polymer.

An alternative is to attach two magazines together. In the old days 'jungle clips' enabled two magazines to be joined with one bullets up and the other baseplate up. This wasn't ideal as it exposed the rounds in the bottom mag to dirt and displacement and required that the two magazines be flipped to enable a reload. Modern magazine couplers overcome this problem. With the AR it is important to join the magazines so that the right hand mag sits lower than the left to prevent interference with ejection. The Buffer Technologies MagCinch uses tensioned nylon straps to pull two magazines together rock solidly. 20 and 30 round AR15 versions are available. Versions are also manufactured for the AR10, SR25, AK, MAK90, HK91, G3, M14 and M1A. The MagCinch can be had with black, tan or olive drab webbing.

The Lancer systems Magazine Cinch is intended for both USGI and Lancer Systems L5 30 round magazines. The Magazine Cinch fits the horizontal ribs on the L5 30 round mag. It is considerably more expensive than the MagCinch.
