Speed Handpiece
Airless Paint Spraying.
Airless paint spraying can be a good way to save time and effort when painting your home. Many people hate the idea of painting. In reality, few people enjoy painting.
So, how does an airless paint sprayer work? There is a enormous range of airless spraguns on the market, but the same idea applies to most of these. The spraygun unit pumps the paint from the hopper or paint drum. The paint material is then pumped through to the handpiece via the spray hose. The spraygun's handpiece has an inbuilt filter and spray tip that can be removed and is trigger activated. The spray tip in the handpiece is reversible - meaning you can promptly and easily clear the tip of any blockage if it clogs up. However, the inline filters stop 99 percent of any unwanted contaminants reaching the spray tip.
Today's airless sprayguns will spray all types of Acrylic Paint, Enamels, Polyurethanes, primers and undercoats. The need for thinning is usually not required.
Masking up and applying clear protective plastic film is also an essential step. Do not rush this process, because there is nothing worse than having to remove unwanted painting overspray. Make sure you also put down some dropsheets - prevention is better than cure!
The art of using an airless paint sprayer can really only be learnt over time. The best way is to practice in the backyard or your workshop on an old sheet of drywall or something similar. Many people are tempted to make the paint cover in the first coat. However, it is much better to spray two or three thin coats rather than one overly thick coat. By doing this, you will eliminate any thick runs in your final result. Remember to keep the spraytip about six inches from the surface being painted. This will take some practice as the tendancy is to move your arm in a sweeping motion which varies the distance of the spraytip from the painting surface.
Finally, don't forget to use a respirator, protective eyewear, suitable clothing or even a disposable plastic spraysuit when using your airless spray painter.
