can I use a marble mortar and pestle for grinding up acidic fruits like tomatoes?
I have a marble mortar and pestle and was wondering if I would be able to use it for grinding up tomatoes onions and garlic, I heard that acidic foods will eat through the mortar and pestle, is there any way I can prevent this? also whenever I grind up spices it leaves a smell behind, even after I wash it. How can I get the smell and taste of one food from transferring into something else I make?

Nothing will eat through a marble mortar and pestle. what you heard may have referred to metal ones. You're fine.
As for transferring smells an tastes, the marble is porous, so it is going to retain stuff. One way to help remove that is to grind up some raw rice, then throw it away. It will soak up a lot of stuff. This also works, by the way, for electric spice grinders.
